We are hiring for one vacancy in the Community Development Department. Appointment may be filled at the Associate Planner, Senior Planner or Principal Planner level based on experience and qualifications.

 

Associate Planner

The ideal candidate for the position of Associate Planner should have experience managing a diverse range of complex current planning projects. The individual should be familiar with the requirements of CEQA and reviewing CEQA documents. The individual should be a team player that is able to manage competing priorities, a full workload and other assignments as needed. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

 

Senior Planner

The ideal candidate for the position of Senior Planner should have experience and a high degree of knowledge related to various areas of current and advanced planning including serving as project manager on a diverse range of complex projects, including general plan amendments and commercial, industrial or residential projects. Minimum CEQA experience is completion of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) or (M)ND. The individual should be a team player with exceptional customer service, communication and project management individual skills.

 

Principal Planner

The ideal candidate for the position of Principal Planner should have experience completing the most complex current and long range planning projects, such as comprehensive Zoning Ordinance Amendments, legislative code amendments, General Plan Amendments, General Plan Element updates, Specific Plans, and development agreements. The individual brings expertise to complex and politically sensitive planning projects. Has a track record of outstanding customer service, situational awareness, excellent communication, and relationship building. Has the ability to foster and develop a high-performing team and a positive work environment. Minimum CEQA experience is completion of an EIR. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification is desirable, however not required.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

 

Associate Planner
Education/Training: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban or regional planning, environmental design, architecture or a related field. A Master’s degree is desirable. Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience in a local government at a level comparable to an Assistant Planner with the City of Camarillo. License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver’s license at a level appropriate to the equipment operated.

 

Senior Planner
Education/Training: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban or regional planning, environmental design, architecture or a related field. A Master’s degree is desirable. Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience in local government including some project management experience. License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver’s license at a level appropriate to the equipment operated. Possession of certification as a Certified Planner from the American Institute of Certified Planners is highly desirable.

 

Principal Planner
Education/Training: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban or regional planning, environmental design, architecture or a related field. A Master’s degree is desirable. Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience in local government including one year of project management experience. License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver’s license at a level appropriate to the equipment operated.
